Chiang Mai: My Favourite Home 清迈: 我最喜欢的家

Talk about Chiang Mai, my heart would smile with glee. Located about 700km northwest of Bangkok, Chiang Mai is the second largest city of Thailand.

Founded on Thursday, 12th April, 1296AD by King Mengrai as the capital of the Lanna (northern Thailand) Kingdom.  Chiang = city  Mai= new.

This cultural, historical and mystical city is known as "Rose of the North". In this super warm hospitality, great food, soul relaxing, charming city with  surrounding stunning mountainous backdrop, who would not fall in Love with Chiang Mai? In fact, most people fall in love at first sight, VoW for a Second Bite!

If you don't have a friend on earth, I strongly suggest you to go to Chiang Mai.
100 + 20% guaranteed you'll find a friend there; if not a dozen or more.
Smile u See, Hi u Hear, Friend u Find!! (even you cannot speak Thai)

Singapore: My Second Home 新加坡: 我的第二個家

Most people in the world would heard of this Island Republic. Located off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, it has been the second home of many nationalities; especially Malaysians. With it's population of 5 million people, 42% of its populace are foreigners!

Talk about Singapore, a white Merlion spouting water would appear in mind. What is a Merlion? It's a lion + mermaid. (For your curiosity sake, the merlion is a MALE.)

According to legend, Singapore was founded by Sang Nila Utama, a Javanese prince who sighted a mystical animal which he later learned was a lion when he first landed on the island's shores in 11th century A.D.  In sanskrit, Singa = Lion. Pura= city.

How was the merlion originated? It was actually a trademark symbol designed by Fraser Brunner for the logo of Singapore in 1964. The lion head symbolises the rediscovery of Singapura and the fish tail symbolises Singapore's beginnings as a fishing village.

Today, when one talk about Singapore, KiASu would pop out of the mind. What is a kiASu? It's a hokkien (local dialect) word meaning "fear of losing". It's an expression used by Singaporeans who want to get the BEST of everything and be the BEST of the BEST(no matter what, no matter where, no matter how!)

Miri:My Humble Hometown 美里: 我的家乡

Talk about Miri, how many people in the world would know? Many times i have to borrow our neighbouring Nation of Brunei when telling the world where i came from.

Miri is located on the island of 'Big Bear Borneo', in the state of Sarawak (the largest state in Malaysia) which was once a vassal state of the Sultanate of Brunei until it was granted an independent kingdom to Sir James Brooke in 1841.

Miri is now the second largest city of Sarawak. It was once a small fishing village. With the discovery of oil in 1910, it began to prosper and developed to a major trading town. On 20th May 2005, it was elevated to a city status.

I prefered to say Miri is located 'on island' rather than 'on state' because the word island sounds more trOpiCal and reLaxing.

Immediately their mind already toOk them to an island swinging on a hammock under swaying Coconut trees sipPing CocOnut juiCe...

If I were to say located on the State of Sarawak, their response would be "Where  SarawaK???"
Sarawak is in  Malaysia."Where Malaysia???"

See the difference??
